The honor code is a system based on trust. That trust allows us to have self-scheduled exams, but it's more than that. The honor code is a set of rules and norms that really guide you every day. You have these great relationships with students, faculty and staff based on mutual trust and respect.

I got in trouble a few times in my freshman year, and I was put in front of the Judicial Board. It was eye-opening to see student leaders trying to help. It's your peers and your friends telling you, 'You can't do that.' It's a transformational experience. After that, I ran for J-Board and served on it for three semesters.

An economics major, I've done a lot of things at Conn both in and out of the classroom. I was on the ski team and the sailing team. I studied for a semester at Oxford. I volunteered in the New London Schools. Now I'm chair of the Student Activities Council.

Even though the honor code isn't perfect, it really influences the tone of the campus. You realize that how you live your life at Conn is part of a bigger picture. It sets up an understanding of how to conduct yourself after college.
